The thesis would be that all organisms and even planets are nothing but sojourners drifting along with no clear purpose apart from surviving. I thought that once Dillard had established the clear connection between mangroves and humans that she would end it there. Often times we still find ourselves drifting aimlessly.
She is unsure of whether to think of the Earth as her final destination, her home sweet home, or as a land of outcasts, travelling from place to place with no purpose within grasp.
